The water was calm. The sun's brightening rays were shining on the surface of the ocean while the waves crashed against the shore of the island. To add to that, the sky was turning from a vibrant orange to a blue that mimicked the color of the ocean. The island was peaceful, almost perfect.
Suddenly, a figure burst out of the water, gasping and flailing. It clawed its way onto shore, where it laid on the sand, breathing heavily. The figure was wolf-like, with white fur and light blue lightning bolt marks on the side of its body. When it lifted it's head, turquoise eyes and a gem in the middle of its forehead could be seen.
"Ugggh..." it groaned. "Where am I?"
Twister struggled to her paws. Another island? Maybe I could stay here and hide for a while, she thought. The wolf stood up woozily. "Why did I swim so far?" she muttered, nearly toppling over. "Couldn't I have found another island without tiring myself out?"
Twister looked away from the ocean and towards the deeper part of the island. She glanced around, surveying her surroundings. There were some large grey boulders and a slope that lead into a forest. Twister squinted, spying a large cave among the boulders. Maybe I could stay ther-no, it's so obvious. There must be other animals occupying it. She looked back at the forest. Well, better explore while I'm here.
Twister leaped over the rocks that littered the beach and ran up the slope, darting into the forest.
Almost immediately, the atmosphere changed. The once hot and arid wind turned humid and shady. Twister gave a small sigh of relief. She was never good in desert-like places nor wide-open places.
The white wolf padded around, examining everything in sight. She had to admit, the island was nicer than the other places she had been, especially since the other places were an underground fire lair and a freezing cold wintry forest.
Then, Twister heard a twig snap. She whipped around, trying to find the animal who had broken the twig. Her eyes glowed faintly, ready to use her powers if necessary.
A dark shape materialized on the branch of a tree, it's silver eyes gleaming. Twister's eyes glowed brighter, until she realized who it was.
"Don't sneak up on me like that," she growled. "Someone could have gotten hurt."
The raven cawed in a way so that one may think it was laughing.
"It's not funny Shadow," Twister insisted.
Shadow rolled his eyes, as if to say, sure....
"Well, at least we found each other."
Caw.
"Excuse me?"
Suddenly, the sky began to darken. Storm clouds rolled in and Twister shook her head as a drop of water fell down and hit her gem. She looked up at the sky, and regretted it immediately. The wolf hissed in annoyance as rain splattered down on her face. She turned to Shadow. "Let's find somewhere to hide from this rain." Shadow nodded in agreement.
Twister took off running, the raven following quickly. "Look for a cave," she told him. Shadow flew a little further away from her and started searching. While he inspected the forest that laid out in front of them, she examined the rocks.
"Shadow," Twister muttered after a while. The black bird fluttered over, cocking his head in curiosity. Twister pointed at two rocks, which were propped up together to form a small cave underneath. Shadow let out a sigh of relief, his black feathers already soaked by the rain.
The wolf and bird entered the temporary shelter, both trying to shake the water off their selves. Soon, the cave floor was all wet.
"Oookay, probably wasn't a very good idea."
Shadow cawed and brought his two wingtips together, rubbing them repeatedly. Then he blew out on the feathers.
"No, I am not making a fire," Twister growled. "Last time I did, he burned down the forest, and it was wintertime!"
Shadow rolled his eyes in a suit-yourself way, and made himself comfortable on a rocky ledge sticking out of the side of the cave.
All of a sudden, fire shot out of the dark side of the cave, and the raven shrieked, tumbling from the ledge and landing on the ground. There was a burning smell in the air, and smoke curled off his pitch-black feathers.
Twister's eyes flashed white, and her fur stuck up on end from the electricity that was arcing into the cave.
"Who's there?!" she snarled.
